Due to a family emergency, our boss and her parents had to leave for Wellington at short notice. Therefore, Julian spent most of the week working alone on the farm.

Of course, he still put in his hours and was as diligent as ever. Together with Franzi, they made a lot of boxes on Tuesday, so that they are now piling up high on the pallets.

We also took care of Emma and Luna, ensuring that they were not lacking anything.

On the weekend, Julian was able to work again at the restaurant and say goodbye to his colleagues there on Saturday. For farewell, Julian also ordered a small selection of dishes, which will be our dinner today.

Even though he didn’t work as much in the restaurant as he initially hoped, he still learned a lot and got a first glimpse into the gastronomy. Who knows if he will need that again in Canada.

With this thought, Franzi continues with her work at the Van Rental. She is now somewhat bored with the repetitive processes, but the end is in sight. She gets along really well with her colleagues, and she will miss the conversations.

This week, the progression of Cyclone Vaianu was closely monitored, which was expected to hit New Zealand at the end of the week. The farm gardener said they needed to prepare for the worst-case scenario. Since we obviously have no experience with cyclones, we couldn’t visualize much. On Saturday evening, the outer bands of the cyclone reached the North Island, bringing a lot of rain and wind. Entire areas were evacuated and flooded, and roads were closed.

In Christchurch, only the remnants arrived, so we didn’t get much except for strong winds and some rain.

It’s always exciting to see the natural forces that New Zealand has to deal with, whether they are cyclones, earthquakes, or tsunami warnings.

Slowly but surely, we are becoming more aware that the end of our time in New Zealand is approaching. The planning and preparation for our trip to the South Seas are in full swing, and of course, we are already looking forward to our time in Canada.

We will use our last week in New Zealand to prepare further, and then in exactly one week, we will set off. The next blog entry might be directly from the airport.
