Hiking in the Saguenay Region
Fjord Saguenay

This morning meant an early rise for us. So, we set off right after breakfast at 7:30 AM. Our highlight today was nearly a two-hour drive away in Baie-Sainte-Catherine: Whale Watching!
The weather looked promising, and we were eager to see what awaited us.
First and foremost: orange rain gear.
Once we were all suited up in orange overalls and jackets, we hopped onto the boat. Waiting for the last three participants made us question the purpose of the orange suits. We were wearing them over our clothes (even over our own jackets). It became really hot 🥵.
But we were told: You will love the orange suits soon! So, we waited in disbelief and sweat.
Then we were off. Many whales gather at the mouth of the Saguenay River into the St. Lawrence River, and we wanted to see them today. And indeed, we first spotted beluga whales. However, we couldn't approach them closely since they are protected by law, but they were still wonderful to observe.
Next, we saw two dwarf whales relatively close, but taking pictures was difficult; they don’t stay above water long enough for you to snap a photo with your phone...

Then we headed out onto the St. Lawrence River, and what can I say: from this point on, everyone loved the orange suit 🧡. With the speed, it got really cold, and soon almost everyone had their hoods up 😂. The 'river' here almost feels like a sea; you can barely make out the other shore, and this isn't even the mouth into the Atlantic.
Out here, we also found a really large group of seals.

With the thrilling ride, we headed back. A very worthwhile trip.
Then we set off westward again. Our overnight stop this time was in Trois-Rivières. We had booked a really nice B&B there. The hosts also live here, and they provide everything you need and more. Including a pool, hot tub, tastings of alcoholic regional drinks, and a lovely room. Additionally, there’s a restaurant and excursion tips.
And so, we found ourselves in a great restaurant again, and I was able to try the national dish of the Quebec region. Poutine La Forge (Delicacies from the Forge): fries drenched in gravy with cheese. It tasted very delicious!
