Return journey

We spent the last day on the plane, at airports, and on the train. But everything went wonderfully.

Paris will probably never be our favorite airport, but this time we only had to bridge four hours.

When you look at the times needed to get from one terminal to another, four hours is a good buffer.

All our luggage also arrived in Frankfurt, so we could complete the last leg of our journey by train. The buffer in Frankfurt was also sufficient, thanks to the train's delay.

Here's our conclusion:

Canada is a great country, very diverse, beautiful cities, wonderful nature, very nice people, and well organized. Some things are reminiscent of the USA but much is also a bit like Europe. For us, it's the perfect mix of city trip and hiking vacation. We had so many highlights that it's hard to name just one.

Here are a few hard facts:

• Average number of steps per day: 12,500
• Total kilometers traveled: 3,350 km
• 19 days plus one travel day

• the terrible toilet paper
• ice cubes with a hint of chlorine
• the awful roads

The roads are indeed in a terrible condition. Due to the long, cold winters, the roads deteriorate quickly. Faster than the Canadians can repair them. Huge potholes, bumps, cracks, ruts are the result. The speed is restricted to 90 km/h (country road) or a maximum of 110 km/h (highway). But there are rarely any signs indicating the damage or speed reductions. And when you hit a bump at 90 km/h, it doesn’t sound good. And there are potholes even on the highways!

That's why there are construction sites and traffic jams everywhere. A Canadian woman told us: 'In Canada we have only two seasons, winter and construction!'
