2026 - January - Vienna - Exhibition 'Myth of Mozart'

Located directly in the basement of the Steffl department store in Vienna, the exhibition “Myth of Mozart,” which opened in 2022, is situated here for a reason: this building is where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart lived, worked, and died.

It is a distinctly tourist-focused exhibition, designed with many display effects – one would say today that it is immersive. This is certainly worth seeing. In the first room, for instance, you are welcomed by 1,500 candles while Mozart's Requiem plays. To enhance the experience, a scent reminiscent of candle smoke has even been introduced, although the candles themselves are, of course, artificial.

In other rooms, elaborately designed films are screened, and visitors can also engage interactively.

This is all appealing, but it lacks in-depth information. In comparison, I recommend the new Strauss Museum, which is modernly presented and simultaneously conveys thorough knowledge about Strauss.

The high price of 23 euros for the relatively short Mozart experience tour was justified by the staff due to the current high inflation.
