This time we headed to Vienna. Saturday morning started off quite chill and ended in a slightly charged atmosphere. The reason: My entire suitcase was full of sand. A heartfelt thank you to my friend, who had the suitcase with him in Sicily and seemingly brought back half the beach with him.

After I managed to free the suitcase from sand, we could finally pack up and head to the airport. Once there, we urgently needed a coffee before anything could begin. We flew with Austrian Airlines, and instead of the chocolate that Swiss Airlines serves at the end, they offered Mozart balls here. I love them.

Upon arriving in Vienna, we headed straight to Café Museum to toast to the weekend. On the table: coffee, Prosecco, Mozart cake, and apple strudel with vanilla sauce. A bit decadent perhaps, but that’s how a Viennese start should be.

At the hotel, we of course had to indulge in an Aperol Spritz, at a really good people-watching spot. The combination of Aperol and the outfits passing by is just endless entertainment.

For dinner, we went to Huth Gastwirtschaft. This is the family Huth's main establishment, where they’ve celebrated classic Viennese cuisine since 2001, right in the first district and regularly recognized by Gault&Millau and Falstaff. The menu features classics like tafelspitz, Kaiserschmarrn, and of course the Wiener Schnitzel, for which the restaurant is famous. And this schnitzel with potato salad was simply breathtakingly good. Crispy, huge, and just how one hopes to find it in Vienna.

A day that began with a sandy suitcase and a slightly irritable mood ended with perhaps the best schnitzel in the city. Vienna, we like you.
