The day after our arrival, we first allowed ourselves to sleep in, as one should do on vacation. The weather was rather mediocre, but eventually, we managed to motivate ourselves and set out.

Our first stop was the Hiiich Café. There, we got ourselves a cappuccino, and yes, with a little teddy bear on top. Too cute to resist. However, since we had dawdled in the morning, it was nearly noon by that time, so we decided to move on to Schnitzel One and brunch there. Brunch with Wiener Schnitzel is something different, isn’t it?

For the late afternoon, we had a bit of culture on the agenda, namely a visit to the Belvedere Palace. For those who are unfamiliar: The baroque ensemble of the Upper and Lower Belvedere, with the beautiful garden in between, was built in the early 18th century as a summer residence for Prince Eugene of Savoy. Today, it houses the world’s largest Klimt collection, and in the Upper Belvedere hangs his probably most famous work, The Kiss. Quite impressive to see such a world-famous painting in real life.

After so much art, we craved coffee and cake again and stopped by Café Schwarzenberg. And what should I say, it looked like old Vienna there. The café is the oldest Ringstrasse café in the city and has been continuously operated since 1861, featuring high ceilings, dark wood, and that charm that is simply irreplaceable. Absolutely beautiful. Sachertorte, coffee, and the view of the street for some people watching made for the perfect Sunday afternoon.

After a little chill session in the hotel and a few Proseccos at the hotel bar, to be honest, we had no desire anymore for a big restaurant. So we drove to what is supposedly the best sausage stand in the city, a real Viennese insider tip. And as a digestion walk, we chose to just use our legs and walked back to the hotel. Strolling through Vienna, surrounded by all the beautifully illuminated buildings, was simply amazing.
