Our next leg goes to Mâcon, and we are moving on the most beautiful stretch of the Saône for us. Initially, the settlements outside Lyon are closely spaced, but they gradually become larger. The river is accompanied by dense floodplain forests, and due to the lock gates, we have little struggle with the current.
Almost 80 kilometers lie ahead of us, with 2 locks. We are cruising at 1700 RPM and making good progress. We hardly had any waiting times at the locks today, the only thing that has changed is the fact that we have to forgo the comfort of floating bollards in the locks. Furthermore, the chambers are filled from above, and our Gustav reacts by running backward with the retreating wave, and when it comes back, he is pushed forward again. This is noticeably livelier compared to the high locks of the Rhône, and I have significantly more effort; however, the strokes of the locks are much shorter at around 5 m.
