Court Bouillon, a dinner in Lyon on Rue Ferrachat

Even though recommendations for dining in Lyon tend to lean towards the La Croix-Rousse district, we decided to reserve a table at Court Bouillon on Rue Ferrachat, in the actual old town of Lyon.

The evening before our departure, we set out contrary to our usual habits at 6:30 PM, as the venue opens at 7:00 PM. We typically would have already eaten by that time, but the French don’t change their customs just because we are guests in Lyon.

The trip was worth it; we had a delicious meal, and not only that, the visual presentation was also appealing as is customary in France.

We were able to have a nice conversation with our table neighbors. A Swiss from Bern, accompanied by an Asian, was spending his weekend in Lyon. This is how we learned the correct pronunciation of the Saône, that it takes about 4 hours to get from Bern to Lyon, and how one can really unwind from daily life here. In return, the two young people were quite curious when they heard about our travels.

For us, it’s not really that special anymore, especially when you continually meet people in the ports who share a similar wanderlust and are setting off on their journeys. For instance, we had two Danish ships as neighbors in the port of Lyon, both on their way back to Denmark after coming from Greece. You may forgive me in hindsight; I had categorized both into the Swiss category, and I was just puzzled by the slightly strange Swiss flag. But even that was eventually clarified :)
