Bandung

On January 19th, we took the train to Bandung. Java has an amazing train network, making it easy to reach almost anywhere, and the best part is the view from the window - Java is truly stunning!!!! Rice fields, mountains, volcanoes, small villages, jungles, and everything is super green.

Bandung is a larger, but very relaxed city. We rented a motorbike and rode up to a volcano on the 19th. Unfortunately, due to the time, we couldn't go all the way to the crater, but the journey and the view were beautiful.

The next day, we wanted to visit the “White Crater”, a sulfur lake that changes color depending on the weather and chemistry, located atop a volcano. The path was a bit challenging, very long and rainy, but in the end, we made it. The ride through the villages was also great. The crater itself honestly smelled quite bad; it had a strong sulfur odor, but the fog created a very enchanting atmosphere.

In the evening, we tried various street food stalls. Indonesian food is truly incredibly delicious. It's cooked with many different spices, often mixing flavors. In Germany, we know so little about Indonesian cuisine, which we really can't understand because everything here tastes absolutely amazing!

The next day, we again took the train to Yogyakarta, the cultural heart of Java.
