We spent the last days in Santa Cruz, from where we also flew. We wanted to be there a bit earlier to spend some quiet time before departure and also because there was a lot of unrest and roadblocks in Bolivia at the time, which made us a bit anxious about getting stuck somewhere and missing our flight.
Santa Cruz is not an exceptionally beautiful city like Sucre, but we had a great time because we experienced a lot of art and culture again. We had met an artist from Belgium in Samaipata, who was working in a gallery in Santa Cruz for a while, and she gave us many fantastic tips. We attended a fantastic exhibition, saw the Bolivian band Savia Andina live in concert, and went to a Psy-Cumbia party. The highlight was Saturday because it was the Night of Museums in Santa Cruz, and somehow it turned into a huge folk festival - the whole city flocked to the center, all galleries and museums were open, there was traditional music, many small stalls and markets, and live performances by artists.
On May 18, we spent the day at the city's botanical garden and chilled with the crocodiles. In the evening, we headed to the airport and flew back via Madrid... with a mix of nostalgia and joy for home :)
