After crossing the border and receiving the Bolivian stamp, we headed to Copacabana (3800m) - a charming little town located right by Lake Titicaca. At lunchtime, we frantically calculated the best current currency for Bolivia, as the Boliviano is hardly worth anything due to the oil crisis and the upcoming elections. So we exchanged USD on the 'market'. https://www.jungewelt.de/loginFailed.php?ref=/artikel/495854.devisenmangel-bolivien-auf-dem-trockenen.html 🏦

We spent the rest of the day at the lakeshore, at a viewpoint (which takes your breath away at such altitude!) and checking into our hotel. What we didn't know yet... it would be the worst night of our trip! With nighttime temperatures around 2°, no insulation in the rooms, no heating, no hot water, and filthy beds with stains, hair, crumbs, and chewed gum between the countless blankets... yes, we cried ourselves to sleep and checked out early after a terrible breakfast and catching a cold the next morning! That was too much! ❄️🏨 Fortunately, the hotel next door had a room available for the next night! In the afternoon, we went on a boat trip to Isla del Sol. ☀️ 🛥️

After a warm, restful night, we set off for La Paz, where we realized that this time we couldn't spontaneously get tickets like usual - all buses were booked. 🫠 So, we took the local bus with the locals on a beautiful, wild bus and ferry ride. We still wonder how the bus managed to cross the lake with the tiny raft. 🛶🚎

In La Paz, we stayed with a lovely family in their home and explored the city on our free day, visiting the witch market for typical Patagonia sweaters and observing protests for the upcoming elections next week. 🏙️🛍️

Early in the morning, our homestay mum drove us to the airport, where we passed a terrible accident with fatalities and unfortunately had to witness the 'police work' here...

Our flight destination: Uyuni, the largest and highest salt flat in the world 🏜️🚐🦩

We spent the next 3 days in the desert, which became the most beautiful time of my entire trip! Incredibly beautiful nature, fascinating animals, such a great group, and our guide Vladdi from Skyline Traveller made even the freezing nights (-12°) at the local tribal hangout a wonderful experience. 🌙🌌

On the last day, the goodbye was hard as our group parted ways, and we concluded our tour in San Pedro de Atacama, Chile. 🇨🇱

Question: Why is a llama called a llama? :)
