A new camping spot at the harbor of Makry Gialos, directly at the access and parking for the Butterfly Gorge... an amazing place...

Our thrilling tour of Crete continued ... always heading east. We are following some tips and trying to reach beaches... but to be honest... the paths there were not really suitable for us. The next attempt ended at Staousa Beach in Kalo Nero.
The access was already very spectacular. A narrow path... a wall on the left and an abyss on the right, loosely secured with a thin blue cord ... well, nothing can go wrong 😂😂. But the place compensated us for everything. Again on a cliff with a view of the sea and an island, peace and silence... just the sound of the waves... wonderful. As soon as we arrived, we naturally had to explore everything. Down to the beach and off to the cave... which you are not allowed to enter because stones can fall down there… but who cares here in Greece... everyone is relaxed.
In the evening, a couple in a camper joined us. Ulla from Germany and Kiriaki from the Greek part of Cyprus... it was nice getting to know you and the conversations were very interesting.
A walk to a nearby church was truly lovely. At the church, you couldn’t hear anything... no background noise, nothing... just silence. We really enjoyed that. We shortened the way to the church... a footpath past houses and directly to the entrance gate. We got that tip from Ulla... the church is open... there’s a little knob on the handle that you have to press... Greek churches are always open. The entrance door is double-leafed, but only the right side opens... great... once I turn sideways, I can also pass through the door. A somewhat musty smell greets us... but that’s always the case in small rural churches. We were told that the human murals with the faces were damaged... the faces were scraped off because back in the day, the people were beheaded... so all in the name of faith, somehow cruel.
On the way back, we take the regular paved path and stroll back to the vehicle... we are glad to have done something, especially since the humidity was quite high and you could feel it in the joints... but hats off... Freddy moves despite the pain.... he who rests rusts.
The evening drifts by, watching TV, cooking, and hoping that the bed moves into the right position... okay, it took longer and many tries on the display... that always creates a bad mood.
