East of Ierapetra on a cliff
The GPS leads us directly through Sitia... not a good idea. The journey continues to Ierapetra... overnight on a cliff

We have a bounce in our step 😂😂 and are heading out around noon...we drive along the coast and reach the harbor of Makry Gialos, where we settle down among tall grass and pines...yes, we stayed there for a few days. The first exploration revealed a sweet little harbor... okay, there were 3 small boats. The harbor was small but charming. Above the harbor, we could reach a kindergarten with a subsequent tennis court and football pitch with floodlights in the evening. However, this was not too bothersome since the lights were turned off eventually. Once again, a wonderful view and we felt good.
One day, 2 campers joined us... that gave us an even better feeling.
After some research... okay, we got the tip from Marion... we walk to the Butterfly Gorge, which is directly opposite the harbor and the road leading into the mountains. A great path to the actual entrance of the Butterfly Gorge – marked as easy to walk. But to be honest... no, you could only break your bones there and after all, we are not the youngest anymore. The path leads us back, but we can take a different route at a fork that leads us up the mountain. Not bad either, because the view was spectacular... we could even see the path we could take and ended up right at the stadium... but such tranquility... unique.
Afterwards, it was just about “licking our wounds.”
