01.21.2025 Staouso Beach

On the last morning, we head down to the beach one more time to take photos... and I hear the sea calling softly.... I swim a little... I will embrace you with my wave arms.... there came the decision... swimsuit on and into the waves... it was delightful, and the subsequent shower was truly wonderful and very pleasant...

The towels are dry, the swimsuit and swim shorts are still 'slightly damp,' and the set-up sun loungers have done their job and replenished our batteries... one never knows if there will be an opportunity at the next spot or if the sun will be shining then.

So it was time to secure everything around noon and set off. The drive along the mountain is stunningly beautiful and a lot of fun. We spot the campsite from afar and can quickly and easily take the right position. OK, the spot is really slanted and crooked, but we find a place that's just fine.... the fridge will probably work as we will later find out. We are standing in Goudouras on a cliff by a wonderful sandy beach and a shower.... what more could a camper want? Today it is really windy, and we retreat into the van.... the late afternoon is welcomed by a magnificent sunset, and we know again... we did everything right

01.23.2025 - 01.26.2025

Somehow we can't leave this wonderful place. We simply enjoy the days here, swim, wash dish towels, and dry them in the sun and wind. A great time with a splendid view, sparkling sea, and beautiful sunsets.

According to Google, there is a supermarket in the town, and from the pictures, I can already spot it from afar - 1 km away. I grab the garbage bag and walk into town. 15 minutes and at 4 p.m. the store opens.... I had read and thought. But the sign told me that the supermarket opens at 4:30 p.m. That didn't matter... I could take some photos of the church and the lovely access to the church. Pebbles were laid out so beautifully that it made for great pictures... and the beach there was also simply worth seeing. I arrived just in time for the supermarket's opening, grabbed a shopping cart, and had to realize that a small basket would have sufficed... well, it's the off-season, so the selection is not really lavish. But I was able to get some great neck steaks, and that's something.

With oranges, nectarines, meat, and bananas in my backpack, I headed back to Freddy and our temporary chosen house on wheels. The meager haul has to last us until the beginning of the week, so we can do a big shopping again in Ieapetra.

In the afternoon, an interfering older gentleman in a pickup truck arrived in the parking lot... looked around a bit and asked Freddy if we would like some vegetables... of course, we would. He gave me cucumbers.... a lot of cucumbers, and I asked him if I could also get some bell peppers... he said no... okay, then not... but wait a moment... a no often means yes, and I ended up with a large amount of bell peppers... I think I’m set for Greece. He didn't want any money... just something to drink, and that didn't include mineral water... alternatively, chocolate would do... great, we had that, and we gave him 4 bars of different flavors... he was happy, and so were we... so it was a win-win.

Today, on 01.26.2025, it is indeed a blustery storm, and it is no fun to spend the day outside. A gust of wind literally knocked me out of my 'shoes', and I stood with my socks on sharp stones... and that sealed the decision.... we go into the vehicle.

We decided to shift Rex because the wind is blowing strongly against the door, and every time you open it, you almost dislocate your arm. Another reason is the earthquakes, which occur every now and then and were quite close yesterday... 13 km from the mainland... where we are. According to the app, earthquakes are still appearing there, and you wouldn't want to stand at the cliff where something might break off.

So we're working a bit in the van, Freddy is searching for more places using the VR goggles, and thus the day goes by.

Oh yes... an update on our pull-down bed with a tilt-down headpiece.... at the moment we only have a pull-down bed with a permanently lowered headpiece and emergency operation... OK, not great but manageable for the short time of 4 months (gallows humor). We achieve a flat surface by placing a backrest from the seating area under the mattress at the foot end, thus balancing out the discrepancy. Yes, that’s tech that excites.

I don't think anything else will happen until tomorrow... so I say bye-bye beautiful spot, and we will surely see each other during the next wintering in Crete.....

The shopping was successful, and the way to the minimarket provided so many great motifs...
