Rhodes

Cruise Mein Schiff 5 – September 29, 2026

Today our destination is Rhodes. After breakfast, we set off early. At 08:10, we leave the ship and walk towards the old town. The pleasant morning atmosphere and the still quiet streets make the start especially nice.

Our first stop is the dolphin statue at Kolona harbor. From here, we continue to the ruins of the church Panagia tou Bourgo. Not much remains of the former church, but the old walls give a hint of how many centuries of history are hidden here.

Passing by the small seahorse fountain, we finally immerse ourselves in the narrow alleys of Rhodes’ old town. Here, strolling is particularly enjoyable. Around every corner, we discover something new – old houses, small squares, and impressive walls. At the owl fountain, we of course take a little photo stop.

We continue to the Sea Gate, one of the historic entrances to the medieval city. The mighty walls remind us of how well-fortified Rhodes once was. The Cathedral of the Annunciation is also on our way and provides a beautiful contrast to the medieval fortifications.

We then walk back toward the historical Mandraki harbor. There stand the famous deer pillars, one of Rhodes’ landmarks. The two deer remind us of the famous legend of the Colossus of Rhodes and are simply a must-see during our visit to the city.

Afterward, our path leads once again along the impressive city moat of the old town. Between the towering fortress walls, we can easily imagine how the city was once protected. To conclude, we reach the Gate of the Virgin Mary, through which we exit the old town.

It was a wonderful morning during which we could discover Rhodes peacefully on foot. We particularly enjoyed the mix of harbor, medieval walls, winding alleys, and the many small historical details. Rhodes amazed us today with its unique atmosphere – a walk where a new piece of history awaited us around almost every corner.
