It's been a whole four weeks since I last wrote an entry... Some of you might be wondering, what's happening with her? Isn't Bali as beautiful as people think?
Absolutely not!
After returning from Lombok and being back on my favorite island, I initially stayed at Kimasurf for two weeks. Here you have the worry-free package. There's breakfast, 2 sessions per day, trips to different spots, water and coffee are for free, plus you get video analysis and surf theory.
All in all, you're busy from morning till evening. Most sessions start at 5:45 am. So much for surfers being lazy! After breakfast, you chill a bit, practice at the pool session, and then it's time for the second session.
Since new people keep coming and going, everyone wants to party at some point. There's always a reason! As always, you meet a few special people - yes Steffi, these words are for you ❤️ - whom you definitely want to see again! You have a few too many Bintang beers, stay out too long, and yet you still want to surf the next morning. That means the nights are (too) short.
I take very few photos, I enjoy life here, the lifestyle, and I'm glad I don't have the phone in my hand all the time for taking pictures. The days go by slowly.
A kind of routine develops, most of the evenings I spend at the Padang Jungs' tattoo studio.
Thanks to Kaliang, whom I met in Lombok, I know them and spend a lot of time here. After several weeks, they become my family here. We eat together, party, hang out together, enjoy the wonderful sunsets, and jam on some evenings - well, I try to sing, otherwise I can't do anything. I am taken everywhere, they take care of me, I'm not even allowed to drive home alone. The guys and Tarie make the days unforgettable. The bond here is different from Germany. What am I going to do without Jarot, Fauzan, Afdal, and Co. when I return to Germany.
Thanks to the guys, my Bahasa is getting better, I understand more and can even speak simple sentences without help. „Aku bisa bahasa indonesia sedikit-sedikit“
Since the swell got pretty high after my two weeks at Kima, I decided to extend my stay at the camp for another week. I didn't dare to surf alone in these conditions. So, it's continued partying!
I'm exhausted but happy after more than three weeks in the camp. However, I'm looking forward to my quiet homestay, but I still booked guiding through Kima.
After taking a day trip to Medewi, West Bali (about 2 hours from Canggu) with Kimasurf, I really wanted to go back there.
One of my guys gave me a contact for Medewi. So off to Medewi to just relax.
Because Medewi is one of the few spots in Bali where time still passes slowly. The warungs close at 9 pm, there isn't really a bar, and you focus on the essentials: Eat, Sleep, Surf, and repeat.
Dika, who used to work for Kima and other camps, started his own small camp Dikaloha Surfschool & Surfcamp. And it's a dream! With just a few rooms but a lot of love, I stay in a room with a view of the sea.
I go surfing with him and his guys, Riki and Eddie. The true local feeling is back. No other tourists surf at the spots.
If the main break is too crowded, we jump in the water at Sumbul. Surrounded by Indonesian kids who show me how to surf properly, I'm having the time of my life! On the second day, we go to the Medewi Pointbreak and then back to Sumbul! But the last day tops it all! Medewi Pointbreak is the longest left wave in Bali, it breaks on a reef and doesn't seem to stop. Paddling out far back, I manage to surf the wave until just before the beach, my legs feel like jelly afterward! But I'm incredibly stoked. Here, I can practice my backside and improve my cutbacks! Thank you Dika for your patience and the best waves of my life ❤️
Aside from the amazing surf, on the first day I meet Adit and Louise, whom I also know through Kaliang. They invite me for an afternoon surf and later a BBQ. The food was incredible, for 7€ I got Snapper, vegetables, rice, sambal, and much more. Thanks, my loved ones, for inviting me!
Otherwise, I enjoy the evenings together with Riki, Spring (another guest at Dika's), and the other surfer boys with a little Nasi Goreng and the occasional story. Armant, who takes care of the guests' well-being, helps me more and more to improve my Bahasa! Terima kasih, teman saya!
Unfortunately, the days in Medewi pass by way too quickly. Rested and with new energy, I drive back to Canggu to enjoy my last week here!
It's unbelievable how fast time flies. I've been in Indonesia for more than 6 weeks now and it feels like it has been both a few days and like I've been living here forever!
The last week must be thoroughly enjoyed, but the next plan is already in place, hopefully I can go to Mentawai with my Padang Jungs in October 😍
So, until we meet again!
