Mora - Nusnäs - Rättvik - Tällberg - Kristinehamn

Today we slept a bit longer, and after another super breakfast in a very quiet hotel, we decided to take a walk through the center of Mora. Mora is known as the arrival city of the annual cross-country skiing competition, somewhat like the Elfstedentocht in the Netherlands. Furthermore, it's a nice potential stop on a longer road trip. You can easily stroll around for an hour. We noticed yesterday that there was also a forestry museum, the Skogsmuseum, just a fifteen-minute drive away, so we decided to quickly check that out as well. It was quite interesting as it covered the history of forestry in this region. You could see how the life of lumberjacks looked from the past to the present.

After this visit, we continued our way along Lake Siljan and drove towards Nusnäs. We are now in the Dalarna region, which is world-famous for its wooden painted horses. Once in 2014, we had been here, but we decided to take another look at two major distributors of these horses. Where once there was a craftsman who carved the horses out of wood, now there was a fully automated robot capable of wonderfully shaping the horses from a block of wood. They were still all hand-painted, which is also quite an art.

We had also been to Rättvik before, but it was bad weather then, so we also took a walk through the center and enjoyed our Fika. Anne had a shrimp sandwich with a piece of princess cake, and I had a sandwich with kötbullar and beetroot salad. We quickly walked to the end of the pier to take some photos and then drove on to Tällberg, a village that Anne had found and is also lovely to visit. Here you will find many authentic houses, and it was also the favorite place of Hans Christian Andersen, where he retreated to write his world-famous fairy tales.

After this, we continued towards Kristinehamn, as it was already 6 PM and we still had to drive at least 3 more hours. On the way, we needed to charge the car, so we quickly decided to grab a pizza and a kebab to eat. We arrived around 9:30 PM, and the key was ready at the reception. We had received a call that the staff left at 7 PM and that we could check in by ourselves. The season is indeed over in Sweden as autumn is starting here now.
