Fulufjellet National Park - Moose Safari

Today, we found ourselves on the Norwegian side of Fulufjellet National Park. This park stretches across the Norwegian-Swedish border, where you can find the oldest tree and the highest waterfall in Sweden. More about this tomorrow. 

On the advice of our host Bart, we took two hikes on the Norwegian side. The first was an easy walk of about 4.5 km that led to a multi-tiered waterfall, after which we walked for an hour along the riverbed before returning to our car through a forest road. A nice little hike to warm up. We then drove to another entrance and hiked a slightly more challenging route. After about half an hour, we reached the summit of the ridge which is exactly on the border between Sweden and Norway. We were above the tree line, which here is already at about 900 meters, and continued walking over a sort of tundra with only moss and heather vegetation. Beautiful to see, and especially the silence is impressive. Afterwards, we took a rocky path back to the valley to get our car and return to our B&B Villa Fregn. 

We decided to spend the afternoon relaxing because at 8 PM there was still a moose safari on the agenda. Anne hopped into the sauna and the hot tub while I watched some Netflix and took a nap for an hour. After dinner, we drove with Didier, our guide, in a van through the surrounding woods to spot moose. We saw three during our ride of over 2 hours, but we definitely have no regrets as it was very impressive to suddenly see these majestic animals appear. We concluded the day with a delicious cheesecake around the campfire, which was once again served by our extremely friendly host. Villa Fregn is truly an excellent B&B run by Belgians.
