The start was a bit bumpy. We wanted to get a SIM card for data so that we could stay in touch with Google throughout our road trip. Unfortunately, we need a physical SIM and, regrettably, the major phone providers in Canada do not see tourists as clients. However, there is one provider that supposedly had prepaid data SIM cards. Supposedly, because we never found that store (despite Google). But thanks to a very helpful metro employee, we found a phone shop and, thanks to another super helpful employee there, we got a SIM card. It also included calling, but oh well 😅. We inserted the card and Google was there 🙏.

So we continue to forgo digital detox. After all, we also want to stay in touch with the world, and this blog writes much better with internet access. Not to mention that we’re traveling with a teenager whom we don’t want to punish 😅.

We also got to know Tim Horton today, where we refueled during our hunt for a SIM card. Delicious!

Timbits 🤩

Then we continued with sightseeing. Today, we visited Casa Loma. A small castle built by a wealthy Canadian in 1911. He had every technical achievement that existed at the time installed and even invented a few new ones.

Small Manor for Two

The entire building was constructed from a self-invented and patented artificial stone. It has an elevator, a shower with 6 different massage jets, 50 (!) telephones, secret passages, two towers, a small library with space for 10,000 books, a suite for him and a suite for her, six guest rooms, multiple dining rooms, a large entrance hall... essentially everything one needs in daily life.

Master's Shower

Afterward, we strolled through Toronto off the beaten tourist path. You can see the photos in the overview above. It’s much more relaxed there.
