Dream Tour Days Lake Garda Day 2

So many impressions overwhelmed us on our first vacation day. First, the wonderfully beautiful apartment in the Italian quarter of Desenzano del Garda with a view of the charming little Piazza Garibaldi and very close to my trusted Gelateria, the bakery with delicious rolls, and a bar that we visited several times for a salad, an Aperol, or a snack in between. Anyone interested in the address is welcome to get in touch through the post—central, large, quiet, and affordable!

After a cozy breakfast at a café on our street, we took to the streets of Desenzano! Nearby was the well-preserved and restored castle, very informative and interesting with great views (pictures to come later), and after descending a small 'hill,' we reached the tourist part of the town, beautifully situated right by the lake, with many restaurants and cafés of all price ranges, boutiques, delicatessens, souvenir shops—all that it has to offer. We walked around the small cozy harbor in the middle of the city, continued along the waterfront to the newly created bathing beach, and rested our feet there with an Aperol and a view over the lake.

It was very quiet there in the café; only a few people had found their way to the beach that day. A light mist lay over the lake, the high mountains on the other side blurred a bit with the horizon and the sky, the water was calm and still, a few seagulls circled over the water, also quite calm and relaxed. We just sat there, let our souls dangle, and enjoyed the silence, nature, and relaxation after the quite exhausting day of yesterday.

But then it was time to continue, back towards the city along the promenade. Desenzano stretches quite long along the lake with many different perspectives, making it very interesting. We explored the town very calmly and leisurely, chose a restaurant for the evening, and took the bus back to our neighborhood due to the 'small hill.' For just 1 euro per person, it quickly transported us up the steep streets—a good alternative when your feet are tired.

I also organized some supplies for the coming days; the obligatory ice cream was enjoyed on the piazza, and in the evening we had a nice dinner—a successful first day of vacation!

Insight of the day: living outside the tourist districts is very pleasant!
