TuscanyMaremmaElba Day 13
Nené, no Vespa, I preferred to stick with the Panda just to be safe 😉. Rented a car without any issues, 140 euros for two days with premium insurance, and off we went. Today it...

Today, it was the turn of the other side of the island. Since Elba is not huge, it is possible to circle the island in two days without stress and still have plenty of time to look around—provided you can find a parking spot. And that's not always easy. Now in May it was still manageable, but I don't think I would want to be here in June or July, the island is too small for a large number of tourists and then all the magic would definitely be gone. 🤷♀️
First, we went over to Marina di Campo and then to Capoliveri, a super cute town on a hill, where you park at the bottom and have to walk up like everywhere in Tuscany. Pure cardio training. 😂 But it’s really pretty, this little town, with narrow streets and stairs that I love, small cafés, and cheerful Italians sitting around enjoying their espresso - I liked it.
Continuing to Porto Azzurro, always along the coast with the endless blue sea beside us. From here you can see the small islands in the sea rising like blue peaks from the water. The entire coastal drive is a dream, the roadside is covered with yellow flowers, a lot of broom blooms in bright yellow, interspersed with blooming thistles, and it smells of rosemary and herbs when driving with the window open—May here in Elba is truly beautiful, you can almost taste it on your tongue. And I can hardly get enough of this explosion of blue, green, and yellow.😍
Then I visited Rio d'Elba, where there is a very old but well-preserved washhouse where people washed their clothes in the last century. It was very interesting to see.
Returning via Portoferraio to Procchio in the brightest sunshine, and there I was in for a surprise. The sun was shining warmly, but by the sea, there was a stiff breeze, the sea was crashing, and the waves were hitting the beach while the tide was quite high. It was great to sit there, watching the seagulls and listening to the song of the sea. A beautiful way to end the day.
The insight of the day: sometimes a surprise is more than what is expected!
