2. Tag in San Francisco

Fortunately, the heaters… it got quite chilly at night. I often wondered how precisely here, in this climate, the hippie movement was supposed to have its origin 😎

But never mind. After breakfast, we dressed accordingly... we are prepared for everything (which probably explains the weight of our suitcases) and off we went by car towards the harbor. Parking in San Francisco is really quite expensive, even for someone accustomed to Mannheim’s troubles 😳 From there, we took the Cable Car straight into the hills of San Francisco. Although these vehicles now only serve as a tourist attraction, the ride was a lot of fun. A little anecdote from the ride: about halfway through, our two conductors pulled the brake, jumped off with the remark “shift change,” and were gone. We completely blocked one lane at an intersection, which led to a funny traffic chaos. We sat for over 10 minutes until the announced crew arrived, who, of course, still had to perform extensive maintenance work... it was delightful and we were completely relaxed since we had no appointments 😎

In China Town, we then got out and let this totally interesting, quirky district and its hustle and bustle take us in. There was great street art on many corners, and in some alleys, you really felt like you were in China.

From there, we walked down to the harbor, where we saw sea lions and had Clam Chowder at Pier 39, among other things. It’s a creamy clam soup served in sourdough bread. Delicious and very filling.

After being on our feet for over 5 hours, we returned to the apartment and after a post-work beer, headed to bed.
