Day 12: Farewell in the Fog, Harbor Chaos & the 100-Euro Night on Værøy
Today was the day to say goodbye to the classic Lofoten. The destination: The remote island Værøy, far out in the sea.

Today was all about saying goodbye to the island world – and nature had prepared a truly special show for us.
Before we boarded the ferry, we witnessed something at the harbor of Værøy that is rarely seen. Deep, dark clouds were hanging over the open sea, rolling in from the north. However, the steep mountains of the island acted like a gigantic shield, holding back the cloud front. The result was surreal: while we stood at the harbor under a brilliant blue sky and in the sunshine, everything around us was enveloped in thick gray. A particularly impressive moment was when the mass of clouds surged over the mountain edges and rolled down the slopes in slow motion, 'rolling' as if time had slowed down. A battle of the elements: the warm island sun here, the cold sea front there. It was an absolutely hypnotic sight.
Then we boarded the ship. The route did not take us directly to the mainland but included a stopover on the island of Røst. In total, we were on our way for about 6 hours.
The Fog Dive: As soon as we left the protective harbor of Værøy, we drove directly into the cloud layer. Visibility dwindled, and the sunny island disappeared into the gray. A mystical mood on the high seas.
The Budget is Happy: Just like the outbound trip, this long ferry connection was also free for passengers and cars. Norway makes it easy to visit these remote places.
In the evening, we arrived in Bodø. After days on the small islands and in the mountains, a city with traffic lights, hotels, and supermarkets felt almost foreign. We checked into a hotel (solid walls, private bathroom – wonderful!) and took an evening stroll at the harbor. And lo and behold: The weather was favorable for us. The sun was shining again in Bodø. The thick clouds had apparently stayed out at sea. It was the perfect, relaxed conclusion to mentally readjust to the mainland and the road ahead.
Daily Summary:
Nature Cinema: Clouds rolling over the mountains while the sun shines at the harbor.
Ferry: 6 hours of a relaxed crossing (via Røst).
Location: Arrived in Bodø (mainland!).
Atmosphere: Melancholic farewell to the islands, but anticipation for the onward journey.
