Tag 1: The early bird catches the ferry ticket – From Berlin over chalk cliffs to southern Sweden

The alarm went off at 2:30 AM. A deeply unchristian hour to go on vacation. But the reason was pragmatic: The ferry tickets from Rostock to Gedser are significantly cheaper in the early morning hours compared to peak times. So, it was a matter of gritting our teeth, having some coffee, and hitting the highway.

The Journey & Møns Klint The drive through the night went smoothly, and thanks to the early start, we didn’t feel rushed in Denmark. Our destination for the stopover: Møns Klint. The weather was typically Nordic: overcast but dry. The Baltic Sea showed its rough side. With the waves crashing high against the coast, a beach walk below was out of the question – the water had nearly swallowed the narrow pebble beach. But even from above, the view of the massive chalk cliffs and the roaring gray-blue sea was absolutely dramatic and worth it.

The Gate to Sweden Over the Øresund Bridge (expensive, but spectacular!) we then headed over to Sweden. Since the actual driving distance to our accommodation north of Malmö was manageable, we arrived relaxed. The accommodation was quiet in the countryside – just what we needed after the early start.
