Unfortunately, the Prater was just wind and an apocalyptic atmosphere at around 0 degrees with wind strength 8.
We had to weigh whether 1. âI'm coldâ at 11:30 AM justifies day drinking or if weÂ
2. would rather take another round at Stephansplatz.
Option 2 won, and we thought that Kaisers would surely also be at home in this weather and would want to serve us cake, tea, and port wine.
Nope - no one there, and Franz and Sisi are collecting a hefty toll - but WITHOUT offering snacks, Kaiserschmarrn or any other refreshments.
But that was our luck, as we stumbled directly and quite accidentally onto the famous CafĂ© Hawelka. đ
Charming, cozy, original, authentic, snug, and without any sideways glances at the Germans. This café is an institution without arrogance and fuss, and for Cindy, it was the highlight of her very first visit to Vienna.
We were allowed to sit at the table of a lady âfrom the neighborhood,â who has been drinking her long coffee at Hawelka every day for 45 years.
Guess what Cindy and Bert ordered... we rarely enjoyed such excellent coffee - and we had a wonderful conversation in the process.
Conclusion: Vienna, mon amour!
