For those who have Bangkok as a stopover, here’s the top tip: book a hotel in the immediate vicinity of the ICON SIAM Mall, as this mall is sensational. Shopping enthusiasts will find everything they need (from fashion to handicrafts to luggage), the shop windows are creatively and luxuriously decorated, and in the basement, there is street food from all parts of Thailand. A true culinary experience for little money.
For European products, a certificate for tax can be issued on the same day at the customer desk on the fourth floor, which can then be claimed at the airport upon departure.
Another advantage of staying near the ICON SIAM Mall: you can easily walk there and are not dependent on tuk-tuks or taxis. The traffic in Bangkok is extremely congested. For a distance of 3 kilometers, it can take up to an hour, depending on the time of day. It’s pleasantly cool in a taxi, while with tuk-tuks, in addition to the heat, there’s also the smog. For further destinations, the Sky Train in combination with river boats is the better choice.
And I truly recommend the Hop On Hop Off boat (available at the pier of the ICON SIAM Mall, among others) to explore Bangkok. The rest is covered in every travel guide .......
