We spontaneously booked tickets to Bari and our first overnight stay and just drove off again. The rough plan for the 10-day route: Castel del Monte - Matera - Alberobello and an agriturismo somewhere in the countryside.
Castel del Monte: built by Frederick II as a summer residence
The city of Trani right by the sea with its beautiful harbor is a true gem on the Adriatic. Not overly touristy, with an impressive old town and the Cathedral of San Nicola Pellegrino. We stayed right in the old town and Perla del Sud is the perfect restaurant right by the harbor. Tip: when booking your accommodation, make sure that parking is available on-site, otherwise the narrow streets get very crowded.
Relaxing and absolutely wonderful food: Le Vigne Al Castello Wine Resort, located in close proximity to Castel del Monte, offers pure relaxation by the exclusive pool and on its own terrace. The OTTOLUNE Osteria serves excellent food and offers wine tastings from the associated winery Torre Vento. Tip: Suite number 210 with sauna has the best terrace.
The sale of Torre Vento is about 5 kilometers away. Excellent wines, especially rosé wines (e.g., Primitivo Rosato) and red wines (e.g., Nero di Troja) straight from the Puglia region. Tip: Distribution in Germany via Hawesko GmbH | Hamburg.
Castel del Monte: Frederick II had this retreat built for himself. The octagonal castle from the 13th century is famous for its perfect geometry, the consistent use of the number eight, and its blend of Romanesque, Gothic, and Islamic elements. The most famous landmark in Southern Italy even adorns the Italian 1-cent coin. It is possible to walk up from the parking lots (about 10 minutes) or take the shuttle bus. Entry for the castle: Adults 10,- Euro.

Danke für den Beitrag, das Castello ist ein Solitär in der Landschaft, schon verrückt was der Stauffer im 12. Jahrhundert auf die Beine gestellt hat. LG
