Saint-Germain-lès-Buxy Castle, near Chalon

The museum is closed, time for a trip into the countryside.

Saint-Germain-lès-Buxy Castle is set to be our destination. We set off, along the Saône towards Mâcon, after about 5 kilometers we leave the riverbank heading west. We quickly reach the outskirts of town and from there it’s a journey on newly created bike paths and later on paved country roads towards our goal. Fields and livestock farming stretch as far as the eye can see, only on the hillside vineyards become noticeable on the horizon.

The formerly agricultural areas have likely developed over the years. Densely populated, newer properties line the roads, villa-like buildings on large, partly park-like grounds.

Such is also the case in the periphery of La Charmée, from there it is not far to our destination. Upon arrival, we circle the property first before approaching the actual building via the generously designed access road, Saint-Germain-lès-Buxy Castle.

We could take a brief impression, but we were quickly informed about the ownership situation. The castle is private property, which will be accessible to the public in a limited capacity starting next week.

Of course, we respect this announcement.

Our respect to the owners at this point, the ensemble makes a well-kept and good impression, as far as we could discern in haste.
