Pont du Gard, Olive Mill, and Wine Tasting in Théziers

Aramon, the favorable location opens up many possibilities for us; Avignon, Arles, Nîmes, and also the Pont du Gard are accessible by bike.

Today, the Pont du Gard is on the agenda. We leave Aramon heading west, crossing the vineyards of Théziers and finding our way to Remoulins. Our navigation keeps sending us on adventurous paths, but most of the bike routes run along well-maintained paved agricultural roads.

In Théziers, we divert from our route because the road was closed and we followed the detour. The route would have taken us past the village. We did not intend to stay here longer.

What we did not know is that we would return here the following day.

At the Pont du Gard, I let the pictures speak for themselves.

On our way back, we tricked the navigation into thinking we had a car, and lo and behold, we returned to our Gustav much more quickly.

Avignon was no longer on the agenda; my first officer reacted allergically to the current pollen levels, so we planned shorter routes and set off in search of olive mills and wineries.

We found these the following day in Théziers.

At the Moulin de Romanou, we were warmly welcomed and allowed to taste the various qualities of the olive mill. We stocked up on olive oil for our upcoming trip and beyond.

Although we initially chose a winery in Montfrin, the owner of the Moulin de Romanou recommended the Earl Domaine Gilphine winery. There we learned that it opens in an hour. We used that time for coffee at the village tavern.

The wait was rewarded; we were excellently hosted and stocked up on both red and white wines for our journey home. However, our saddlebags were not sufficient, so we arranged for our haul to be delivered to the dock in Aramon.

Thanks again for the perfect service and good wine.

We emptied the first bottle that very evening.

Asparagus and chops were on the menu, and I had to buy the necessary ingredients at Intermarché Montfrin, rounding off the meal with Boursin and baguette.
