Avignon

Before Avignon, it was 16 km on the bicycle. The path leads along the Rhône dyke on a gravel road until reaching the new town of Avignon, from there across the Pont du Royaume and the Pont Édouard Daladier, and soon we stand before the city wall of Avignon. Our first stop is the post office. We are on schedule and our GPS directs us straight to the square in front of the post office, opposite the main train station of Avignon.

According to the opening hours, we still had about 10 minutes to send our mail, but… the post office was closed.

It reopens at 2:00 PM, and our hunger had started to make itself known, thus Les Halles d'Avignon became our next destination.

We had quiche in various versions. It was a short stroll, but due to the late hour, some of the stalls were already starting to dismantle their displays. Our first impression was okay, but the Halles de Sète have more tradition.

In the meantime, my first officer struggled with pollen allergies, so we scaled down our plans, bridged the waiting time until the post office opened, and took a break at Le Moutardier du Pape beneath the Papal Palace.

We continued our way to the boat dock, as we found no space in the third row during our trip south, we wanted to check the operation there today and lo and behold, we would have been the only boat.

Passed the bridge of Avignon towards the post office and lo and behold, it was still closed. Now we also realized that as Germans, we are often reminded of the past, VE Day.

Plan Aramon and then we will see, if Avignon, then we can also go by car, I would love to visit the Papal Palace.
