Our next leg takes us from Mâcon to Chalon sur Saône. Ahead of us are 58.38 km and two locks. The old locks of the Saône are partially used today as ports for recreational boating, similar to Mainkur in Frankfurt, while others sink in the current riverbed, barely poking out of the water.

Along our route, we pass by hobby fishermen who, equipped with small boats, line almost every kilometer of our journey. Sometimes there are semi-professional tents set up on the shore, some with kitchens and sleeping arrangements, where one can settle for days while fish swim right by their noses.

Before Chalon, the Saône makes a wide bend to the west, where the port is located in the southern part of the city. Ships are being loaded, and as we approach the center, the scene shifts toward the promenade.

The entrance to the port is opposite the old town, and the marina lies in the Bras de la Genise. Together with the Saône, it forms an island.

Our expectation was to dock at the long jetty like all other visitors. After signaling that we would stay for 2-3 days, we found a nice spot directly at the extension of the staircase.
