I had never been canyoning before and didn't really know what to expect. Equipped with life jackets and old sneakers, we hiked and swam about 14km through the canyon. The water was quite cold and towards the end, I was actually freezing – the first time on my trip. The hike through the canyon was very challenging for my foot. Especially when we walked through the water, I couldn't see the bottom and often didn't know where to step best. But everything went well and the guide led us very carefully and safely.</p><p style='color:rgb(0, 0, 0)'>Along with me, a Belgian man and woman, a Dutch woman, and a German participated in the tour, and since we got along well, we decided to rent a car together tomorrow and explore the area. I am very excited.</p>

I have since traveled to Estelí. The city is located in the northwest of Nicaragua at an altitude of about 800 meters, giving it a wonderfully pleasant climate. In the evenings, I even need a long sleeve shirt because it noticeably cools down after sunset. And there are no mosquitoes – a dream!

I am staying with a family that rents out a guest room; I share all other spaces with them. Luckily, the son speaks good English, having attended an English-speaking school in Managua for three years. The mother is very warm but speaks only Spanish.

Estelí is known for its cigar production, so today I visited a small cigar factory in the city center.
