The USA is about commerce and capitalism. I don't like it, I feel uncomfortable, it all doesn't quite resonate with me, nothing new (see for example here). By chance and yet with intention, I am spending time in this country again - and thus also during Thanksgiving.

At first, I was annoyed because it's the week when almost nothing in North America is as usual: In the USA, everything closes, really, completely, absolutely; libraries, archives, universities - on Thanksgiving Thursday, you feel like you've suddenly traveled to a different country. 99.9 percent of all businesses are closed, cafés are closed, shopping centers are closed, everything is just closed, sidewalks rolled up.
