After the unplanned but amazing hotel stop at Halifax Airport, the next day it was finally time: We got to pick up our camper van. Key handover, orientation, slightly overwhelmed faces, and then we were inside. Our mobile home for the next two and a half weeks.

Thanks to Sarah from the van rental (absolute legend!), we also had our first road trip stop: Lunenburg. A really colorful harbor town with plenty of charm, UNESCO World Heritage... just a couple of hours away from Halifax.

Before we set off on our first walk through the pastel-colored alleys and by the little harbor, we obviously needed some caffeine first. Unfortunately, all the fancy cafes were already closed. Typical small-town opening hours... so we ended up at a classic Tim Hortons. And yes, I once again had prejudices that were not confirmed 😇 The coffee was quite good!

Hardly arrived, we made our first bet: How many people live here? We were both completely off. 2,400. that’s it. And it seems like everyone owns a colorful house with a perfect flower bed.

In the evening, we ended up at Grand Banker Bar & Grill, right by the water, super cozy. And when you’re already in Nova Scotia, you have to try the lobster roll.

Conclusion: Well… a bit bland in taste. But the beer was quite good. No wonder with so many local breweries. Nice and cold and so good that you almost forget that the hairdryer didn’t work. Almost.

Okay, my hairdryer failed and the lobster roll was not a highlight. But we experienced our first mini-adventure in the van, discovered Lunenburg, celebrated beer, and slowly felt the Canadian flow.
