Cape Breton: Cliffs, Coast, and Coffee

Next stop: Cape Breton. We wanted sea, open spaces, and a place with a view. After a few minutes on Google Maps, we found the Wave Ends Campground: right on a cliff with a view of the open water. We had planned for two nights at the campground – for unwinding, being aimlessly lost, and exploring the area. The journey there was already beautiful. First along Lake Ainslie, then continuing towards the coast. With each turn, the landscape became more beautiful. Mountains, lakes, ocean, empty roads, and always this feeling of freedom. Just as Sarah had predicted...

You actually want to stop constantly and look. Or take photos. Or just stay there.

What we didn’t know at the time: we would eventually come back… but I will mention that in another blog post.

Day 1: Detour to Inverness. A small place right by the water with a short trail along the beach. The so-called “trail” was more of a pleasant walk with a view. For our Swiss hiking standards, it was like a warm-up round before breakfast. Beach instead of elevation, ocean sounds instead of cowbells, and a little drizzle for that extra Canada filter.

On the second day and the next morning, we continued, but not without coffee, that would have been grossly negligent.

Quickly typed in “Coffee near me,” and found something right away. It was Marguerite boutique et provisions Cafe. The combination of a cozy cafe with a sofa and a small boutique has become one of our favorite cafes (at least in Cape Breton).
