Refreshment in the jungle and at one of the most beautiful beaches in Guadeloupe

This morning after waking up, we noticed that one of our bananas had been nibbled on. A few crumbs were lying on the kitchen counter and on the floor. Who could it be?? The lizard with whom we share the apartment? If you try to chase it away, it quickly scurries back through a crack into the building. Or the bird that flew in through the open window today? We probably won't ever find out for sure, but well, the bananas are now stored in the fridge like all our food. We are indeed living right in nature and do not have window panes in the apartment, only wooden shutters. Nothing is truly safe.

Freshly strengthened by what our co-diner left us for breakfast, we then visited the Cascade du Saut d’Acomat waterfall. To reach it, we had to first climb down a slippery, muddy path from the parking lot between tree roots and boulders, as well as cross a stream. Unfortunately, it had rained a bit beforehand. So it was extra slippery and slimy. After about 20 minutes, we reached the waterfall, thankfully without any falls, which cascades into a turquoise-blue basin. The refreshing cool water made up for the trek. Many jumped headfirst into the water or swung themselves in with a rope. There was always something to see and photograph 😊.

The way back was a bit easier; the risk of slipping upwards is not quite as great.

At the top parking lot, a young woman came up to us. She spoke almost no English, so we communicated in French with hand gestures. Together with her boyfriend, they wanted to go to the next town with us. During our trip, we learned that they own a hut above the waterfall and grow vanilla there. Additionally, one can stay with them via Airbnb.

On our way to Plage de la Perle, we let the two of them out in Pointe Noir. We took a selfie to say goodbye.

Plage de la Perle is the filming location of the series Death in Paradise. It is truly a wonderful beach with hundreds of meters of palm trees.

According to our vanilla farmer Claude, it is one of the most beautiful beaches in Guadeloupe, and he is probably right.

We then jumped a bit in the waves and made our way home just before sunset.

Before we returned to our house, we went shopping. Take a look at the picture: 50 percent rum, 1.75 liters in a type of Tetra Pak.

We bought the same rum, of course from Guadeloupe, yesterday, but only 0.5 liters and without noticing that it has 50 percent alcohol. Now we are just drinking it as a kind of punch with grape juice.

One more word about the blog: It was actually intended just to inform our acquaintances, who were very interested in our vacation here in the Caribbean, a bit more thoroughly than with a WhatsApp status. In the meantime, our reports have already been read over 500 times, and we are number 13 of the best blogs in 2025 at Vakantio, where there are indeed many blogs from all over the world. This was totally unintended; we are of course very pleased, and we hope we can also provide you with some interesting information for the last 4 days here in the Caribbean.
