Trip to Grand Terre, the eastern, flat side of Guadeloupe

Today we went across Guadeloupe. At up to 31 degrees Celsius, we traveled 170 km on winding roads with the typical French paved road undulations. The only road through the mountainous part of Guadeloupe feels like a journey through a botanical garden. Simone said that these are just houseplants growing wild in the jungle.

We made a short stop at Cascade aux Ecrevisses, yet another waterfall with a small pool underneath.

Next, we headed to the Grande Terre peninsula; our first stop was Sainte Anne. There, we strolled through a small market with spices and fruits that we didn’t really know, alongside rum punch in all flavors. 15 vanilla sticks for 10 euros seems really cheap, but we only need two or three vanilla pods a year. By the time we use them all, they will probably be “used up.”

At the market, I bought two T-shirts with prints, including Guadeloupe.

The beach of Sainte Anne is kilometers long, with many small snack stalls and ice cream vendors, and lots of people, but it disperses along the length of the beach.

At the beach of Saint Francois, yet again a Caribbean dream beach, we rested and then had a baguette with Morue (cod), before heading back across all of Guadeloupe to our accommodation in Bouillante.
