Pure Nature

After the French breakfast outside on the terrace in front of my cabin, I set off in the best weather. Today, I have another slightly longer stage ahead.

I ride for hours through nature, sometimes alongside the Saône, sometimes next to a side canal. It is noticeable that the number of vacation boats is steadily increasing. The locks are all operated automatically, so they pass through quickly.

On the terrace of a small brasserie next to the entrance of a canal tunnel, I meet Frank from Cologne, who is taking his lunch break. I join him for a Perrier. The 5-year-old daughter of the owner serves us. She has also placed her piggy bank on the counter, expecting tips (and of course, she gets them). After that, I continue on.

The few small villages are almost deserted, even though it’s the weekend. It is getting warmer, and I am glad that I still have enough battery charge for the ascent to my day's goal. The old spice mill is located quite high, slightly away from the Saône. However, my hosts are already expecting me with an ice-cold menthe à l'eau. Dinner is served at 7:30 PM......
