Since it was extremely cold and wet this morning, I stayed in the hotel a bit after breakfast. I set off around 10:30 AM. The constant rain eased and turned into showers. Unfortunately, the temperature remained below 10 degrees; only when the sun briefly appeared was it somewhat bearable. Otherwise, it was mulled wine weather, but sadly, I don’t have a camping stove with me.

The route followed along the Rhône or the associated canal. Once again, it was confirmed that France is sparsely populated outside the centers. Mostly I traveled through forests and agricultural areas, fruit orchards, and vineyards.

The few small villages seemed deserted.

Only after 70 km did the two only notable places on the route come into view, Tournon-sur-Rhône and Tain-l'Hermitage. Since I had reached the 1,000 km mark of my tour, I treated myself to a break under the plane trees on the river promenade. Thankfully, plane trees not only provide shade but also shelter from rain showers.

The last 24 km to Valence were not completely dry either, and I had the impression that the receptionist at the hotel quickly regretted letting me push the bike over the carpet through the foyer and bar into a meeting room for safe parking at the sight of my bike.

1.000! Starke (Zwischen-)Leistung, Respekt!
