Golfing in Morgado – Perfect Weather, Great Game, and an Impressive Course

Today, a round of golf was scheduled at the beautiful Morgado Golf Course – and what a successful day it turned out to be!

The course is located north of Portimão, nestled in a 980-hectare estate filled with small, hilly valleys. This Par-73 course is among the longest golf courses in the Algarve and is known for its large greens that require precise putting. The deep fairway bunkers are particularly memorable and demand strategic play. The architect designed the course to be visually challenging while still fair to play. There are no forced shots over hazards onto the greens, and there are always alternative playing options available.

The wind, a common companion in the Algarve, can significantly impact play on this course – sometimes challenging, sometimes supportive. The cleverly positioned flag locations make the round particularly exciting and can significantly increase the difficulty.

The first nine holes went smoothly for us with the best weather, but on the back nine, the wind picked up, making the challenge even more interesting. It was just fun to adapt to the conditions!

Another special feature of the Morgado Golf Course is that it is one of the few championship venues that have hosted the Portugal Open – a tournament of the European Tour and Challenge Tour – multiple times. It’s no surprise, as the course combines sporting challenge with the natural beauty of the Algarve.

Another highlight of the day was our flight. We played with a friendly couple, Juli and Erich from Austria, who enriched the game with their good mood and sportsmanship. Unfortunately, Erich had to retire injured after 9 holes.

However, the best part was our own game! My husband and I were on a roll and both finished the round with 6 strokes under our course handicaps – a feeling that we, as golfers, do not experience often and that made us really proud.

After the round, we relaxed with Juli and Erich on the terrace of the clubhouse, enjoying the view of the course with a refreshing drink in hand, chatting about the best moments of the day, and feeling completely satisfied.

Morgado impressed us with its beauty, its perfect blend of challenge and enjoyment, and its championship atmosphere. For all golf lovers, this course is an excellent choice.

On the way back, we made a stop at Praia do Castelo to admire the sunset.
