After a restful night at the B&B Hotel Béziers, which offered unbeatable value for money, we started our penultimate leg at 10:00 AM. For just 60 euros, the room was clean, well-located, and complemented by an excellent breakfast (€8.50 per person). The sunrise, visible right from the bed, was particularly impressive.
It really looked like a sky on fire, putting a smile on our faces first thing in the morning.
The drive took us through the picturesque Provence – an area that fascinates us time and again.
Especially striking along the way was the view of the Mornas Castle, perched 137m high on a steep cliff above the Rhône Valley. The fortress dates back to the 10th century and played a strategically important role in the Middle Ages as a defensive structure. Today, it stands as an impressive testament to the past, captivating visitors with its restored walls and breathtaking views of Provence. A place definitely worth a visit – maybe next time!
The closer we got to Montélimar, the grayer the sky became. Just before Valence, the rain finally set in, making the nickname of the A7 – Route du Soleil seem rather ironic today.
A short break at the Portes-lès-Valence rest area gave us the chance to catch our breath before continuing on our journey.
After our break at the Portes-lès-Valence rest area, we continued our drive without further interruptions all the way to Geneva. For a while, however, it was far from pleasant; heavy rain, strong winds, and poor visibility required our full concentration.
Safety comes first, so we had to slow down and drive particularly carefully. Fortunately, the weather eventually calmed down, allowing us to cover the last kilometers more comfortably.
After almost 500 kilometers and about five hours of driving, we safely arrived at my brother's place in Geneva. Soon after, my nephew Thomas also joined us, and we are now enjoying an aperitif and a lovely dinner together with family. A wonderful conclusion to this day!
Tomorrow, we will embark on the final leg – back home to Nottwil.
