Travel report: From San Sebastián to Béziers – a journey through diversity

Today we started our return trip from San Sebastián towards home, aiming to spend the night in Béziers. Due to the bad weather, we decided to take the route via Toulouse, as the weather forecasts are better here.

At the border crossing into France, we encountered our first traffic jam, not due to customs, but because of the toll booth. After this brief delay, traffic is now flowing smoothly, and we are making good progress.

Our route takes us along the majestic Pyrenees, a scenically impressive stretch. We have now arrived in Pau and still have about 370 kilometers to Béziers ahead of us. Along the way, we see numerous signs of the region's diversity: ski stations, wine routes, and ancient cities waiting to be discovered. The area seems to offer a rich mix of nature, culture, and history – perhaps an inspiration for future travels.

We drive not far past Lourdes, a well-known pilgrimage site that attracts believers from all over the world each year. However, we decided to skip it since we are not religious – instead, we enjoy the view of the surroundings.

Our further route took us along the majestic Pyrenees, a scenically impressive stretch. 

However, the mountains were hidden from us – they were veiled in clouds and fog. Instead, we were later surprised twice with beautiful rainbows, a small comfort and highlight of the trip.
