After an included breakfast buffet, with an impressive pancake machine :), we headed out today to the famous Route 66. The historic and probably oldest road in America impressed us with its great atmosphere, beautiful little villages, and impressive old classic cars that kept appearing along the roadside.
After some smaller photo and coffee stops, we arrived in Kingman in the late afternoon. This wonderful city welcomed us with an Oktoberfest including brass music. It reminded us a bit of home :)
Having refreshed ourselves in a cheesy but cute diner, we made our way to our accommodation, a cabin in nature. We had checked the accommodation on AirBnB beforehand because it was cheap. Unbeknownst to us, the cabin was really in the middle of nowhere, and we were already looking forward to a romantic night. After an adventurous journey, where we saw a rattlesnake, among other things, and had to dodge what felt like 1000 potholes, we finally arrived at our little cabin in the middle of the night.
After digesting the initial shock, we were able to enjoy the starry sky and nature a little bit. In the distance, you could hear wild donkeys braying.
In the morning, the sun already heated us up from our sleeping place, equipped with a metal roof. Anna navigated us confidently through the pothole maze again and we drove to Oatman. This little western town convinces with its authentic cowboy style and interesting historical background. Another highlight in this town were the donkeys, which were left behind by former gold miners and were roaming around freely.
After a little tourist tour, we continued to Laughlin, a beautiful city on the Colorado River. Here we wanted to check into an inn or cheap hotel, but unfortunately, it was not possible as everything was either fully booked or ridiculously expensive. This circumstance was mainly due to the fact that on this day Kid Rock had a concert in this city, and also because Americans celebrated Columbus Day this weekend, which gave them Monday off.
After an unsuccessful search for a room, we returned to Kingman where we spent another night in a cheap motel.
