After a short trip to the north of Bali, we traveled to the southern peninsula and rented a small, nice but remote apartment. We spent the first day at Bingin Beach. We could relax wonderfully and watch the surfers at Kelly's Warung. This motivated Mathias to rent a board and brave the waves. Paddling was pretty tough and the waves were not only for beginners, which didn't lead to much time on the board.
At the first dinner at the highly recommended Cashew Tree, we discovered a flyer from the Bali Training Center next door and decided to attend a HIIT (High Intense Interval Training) class the next morning.
So we went there again in the morning and really suffered. The fitness program lived up to its name and was definitely intense. But the exercise also did us good and we rewarded ourselves afterwards with a delicious breakfast bowl. We spent the afternoon sightseeing and first visited Garuda Wisnu Kencana. This is a relatively newly built and huge statue with a kind of small amusement park around it. The visit (at the rather high price) was not really worth it, as most of it was locked and you couldn't walk to the statue. The shuttle bus that is available was already full when we were there and we would have had to wait two hours to take the next one. We decided against that and instead drove with our scooter to the actual Uluwatu Temple on the cliffs on the south coast. The view from the cliffs is beautiful, but the old temples are not very spectacular. At the end of the day, we got a new smartphone for Seraina, as the old one fell victim to the waves on Nusa Lembongan and didn't want to come back to life even after a week in a rice bag.
We spent the third and last day at Bingin Beach again. Mathias tried his hand at surfing again - with more or less success. Most of the time was spent paddling or surfing on the stomach in the waves - getting up was somehow not an option today either. Well - it won't be the last attempt. After a beautiful sunset, we returned and packing was once again on the agenda - next destination: Labuan Bajo, Flores.
