Pelješac, Croatia: Day tour - Must see's

Sometimes you just need a beach vacation. Our motorhome is parked in a permanent pitch in Orebić - The beautiful Camping Nevio- https://www.nevio-camping.com/

But our restless souls won't let us completely relax unless we explore new territory. So we set off to explore the Pelješac Peninsula in more detail.

In Orebić we came across a car rental that offered us a small Opel Corsa for €55/day. This is the most affordable option in the area and it offers the perfect all-round package. Now we're ready to go. Pelješac, hold on tight, here we come. 

#1 Picturesque Ston

We start our tour in Ston. The route then continues towards West-Pelješac. In Ston, you will find the longest city walls in Europe and the oldest active salt pans in the world. However, with temperatures around 35 degrees in the morning, a 5.5km hike along the walls is too intense for us. Admission costs 70 Kuna (adults), 30 Kuna (children), and is possible from 8 am to 7:30 pm. You can already admire the walls as you enter the small town. In the picturesque alleys, you can catch glimpses of the fortification wall over and over again. The town, with its attention to detail and charming old town atmosphere, has completely enchanted us. As Theodor Fontane inspired us, "The magic is always in the details". Restaurants in the narrow streets tempt you to linger with local dishes such as oysters and mussels. A perfect starting point for our road trip.

#2 Zuljana - Azure blue bathing fun

After a 30-minute drive along the D414, we came across the pretty fishing village of Zuljana in southwestern Pelješac. Parking lots are conveniently signposted and cost around 20 Kuna per day. If you're looking for crystal clear, azure blue water, this is the place to be. From the pebble beach, you can easily transition into the gentle waters with a sandy bottom. The blue bay is surrounded by green forests and hanging cliffs. Hold my belongings, I'm going for a swim! This is the perfect spot for a relaxing swim and snorkeling session.

#3 Panoramic road with beautiful bathing bays

The road to Trstenik leads along a breathtaking panoramic road. There are numerous parking bays along the roadside. We can only say: Stop, take out your camera, and enjoy the view. The view becomes more enchanting from spot to spot. The beautiful turquoise blue shades of the water along the coastline are captivating. Go ahead! Park your car and descend towards the water. Here you will find small, peaceful bathing bays. Take your time and take a dip in the refreshing water. It doesn't get any better than this.

#4 Quiet, small Trstenik 

If you continue on the panoramic road, you will come across the small village of Trstenik. The beautiful, green forested landscape invites you to stop and admire the surroundings. Some may want to try a local wine, such as the Dingač or Postup red wine. After all, this area is located in a wine-growing region. 

#5 Dingač Tunnel 

We leave the panoramic road at the Dingač Tunnel. Those who still want to enjoy the view can continue following the panoramic road until Postup. We reach Postup via the main road and what can we say? Pelješac has won our hearts and captivated us. Enjoy every single viewpoint, they will stay with you for a long time.

#6 Tips on the way to West-Pelješac 

Continuing along the main road from Postup, you will pass by many beautiful villages. Although we didn't make a stop at any of them on this tour, we still want to share our tips with you:

* Mokalo: It is a tiny place. If you descend to the small bathing bay, you will come across an original beach bar, or rather, we call it a Tiki bar because of its flair. It's time to sip cocktails! 

* Orebic: Our hometown at the campsite. It is one of the largest towns in Pelješac. Here you will find larger supermarkets. If you want to go for a swim, you will find fine gravel under your feet. Along the long promenade, there are numerous restaurants, bars, souvenir shops, and other little stores that invite you to stroll around. From Orebic, there is an hourly ferry to the old town of Korčula (a must-see!). For hiking enthusiasts, we definitely recommend climbing Sveti Ilija, the largest mountain on the peninsula. Suitable for driving or hiking, the monastery: Gospa od Anđela is also worth a visit. The climb is rewarding in both cases!

* Kućište and Viganj: A road runs directly along the beach through both towns. These are very popular spots for sailors and windsurfers, or those who want to try it out. You will find numerous sailing and windsurfing schools and rental shops here. The small towns are bustling and with colorful beach bars right on the sand, they are a beautiful contrast to what you have seen on the peninsula so far.

#7 Viewpoint

If you continue driving, you will automatically reach a beautiful viewpoint. Our review on Google: 'A charming view, even to Korčula. Absolutely beautiful spot to see the peninsula from a different perspective. If you are nearby, the viewpoint is a must!' We were lucky enough to watch a paraglider take off and fly. Sometimes you are just in the right place at the right time.

#8 Lovište - The western end

The westernmost point of our tour and thus the end of the peninsula drive is the town of Lovište. The residents here traditionally live from fishing and agriculture. Restaurants are located right at the harbor. Doesn't a delicious fish dish with a great view of the boats in the harbor landscape sound like the perfect ending? From here, there are supposedly many beautiful bays that can only be reached by boat. On the way back, we also discovered the large residents of Pelješac, wild horses. Perhaps some of you will have the same sight.

#9 Wine, wine, wine: Wine Shop, Andričević 

We drive back towards Postup and end our day at an absolutely charming, elevated wine bar, overlooking part of the Pelješac Peninsula. If you want to enjoy wine in a special ambiance or watch the sun set behind the highest mountain on the island, this is the place to go!
