Wednesday: travel day, Thursday in Ceriale

Wednesday was travel day. The journey was a relatively short 2.5 hours along the coast from France in to Italy. We did catch a glimpse of Monaco down on the coast, but otherwise it was all about lorries and tunnels. 

We arrived in Ceriale and setup camp. We planned a day out on Thursday so didn’t put the sides on the awning. It was scorching hot so we pegged up the windbreak across the front to give us some shade and cowered from the burning sun. Within 2 hours the sun was setting and the evening turned cool, so we walked to the local Lidl. It wasn’t that local and down narrow roads without pavements, so was not much fun. We will drive next time. After dinner we walked the dogs round the quiet roads above the site which were much more relaxing. The site is set amongst greenhouses and farmers fields, giving the initial impression of quite a down-beat location, but once settled in it is really just an honest, simple country setting. Winnie had “a bit of a tum tum” so we were keen to get her to do her business away from the site (nothing more embarrassing than picking up a poo on someone else’s pitch). 

Thursday we drove the van out to Finalborgo which was a charming fortified village with a citadel on top of the hill at the centre. We walked around a bit, had a coffee and then walked the lung-burning path up to the citadel. The views from above the village were lovely. On the way back we checked out the beach front and plan to return tomorrow when the sun is predicted to shine. On the drive home we stopped at a pet shop to buy dog probiotics. The owner spoke good English and was extremely helpful, so we ended up with probiotics and some gut-friendly dog food and kibble. He also gave us a tip of a village to visit so we’ll schedule that in for tomorrow too. Finally he came to say hello to the dogs who were happy for a stroke, and he seemed to love them, planting a kiss on Winnie’s head  

The rest of the day will be filled with, in no particular order, beer, laundry, reading, eating, snoozing and a dog walk or two.
