Lazy day, lazy day, travel day

Sunday was hot, and also busy with weekend campers. Consequently, we didn’t do much. We had a swim in the lake, a swim in the pool, a drink at the bar and spent a good portion of the day seeking shade.

Monday was much the same. We did spend a lovely hour in the lake with Abby, Reece and Earl. They have a paddleboard and Betsy had a ride on it. We were not convinced she entirely loved it.

We found out a bit more about them. Reece runs his own business and can do so from anywhere, including sitting outside his campervan. They are totally hooked on travel, albeit tempered with the usual lure of family. Abby is also part Spanish and they are contemplating going through the process to get residencia, which would allow them to travel Europe without the 90/180 hindrance that affects us Brits. I reckon they’ve got it sussed.

Monday was travel day. Just by luck we were awake and up before 7am so had to be a bit quiet. I washed off the van, with the dustpan brush gaffer taped to one of the awning poles to reach the solar panel, because it was covered in white, sticky dots that had fallen from the trees, which was evil to get off. We were soon on the road, going via an Aqua Planet pet shop for dog food and Lidl for human food. The journey was about five and a half hours without stops, and we had two of them, including a lunch stop in the shadow of Mont Blanc. We had to go through the Mont Blanc tunnel to get there, about 18km long and, for Jane, a tense, white-knuckled ride. The scenery along the way was pretty spectacular, with valleys and raging rivers, cable cars and waterfalls, all with a backdrop of some serious mountains, a few topped with snow.

The first site we had favourited, which had ACSI spaces yesterday, was full today, and the normal pitches were €48 per night. We tried the next site and that does have ACSI spaces, but only for 2 nights. It is pretty good, sitting above the lake with a great view. We have short listed other sites that are on the lake, and also some sites on a smaller, and hopefully therefore a bit less popular, and will have a ring round tomorrow to see which have spaces. If we can find somewhere we will possibly move tomorrow.
