An unplanned travel day
Our first site on Sardinia was lovely, if a bit big - we had to wear wrist bands 😁 - but situated on the north coast it gets all the wind. These were up to 29mph on Saturday, so...

I’m sitting in the early morning sun with my first cup of tea, reflecting on our journey so far, as we are about half way through our trip.
We have said to ourselves many times that we are travelling, not on holiday. That transition to a slower mode of moving around takes a bit of adjustment and I think we are just about there now.
Yesterday morning I had a bit of a downer. The site we were on, recommended by a fellow traveller, was large but fine - if you can forgive the need for wristbands, which I struggle to do - however it was on the northern coast which, Google informed me when I thought to ask it, gets quite windy. It was due to get worse over the next few days too, so we made a snap decision to pack up and head south where the mountains and other factors provide protection from the winds. Having just setup camp the night before only to be packing up again in the morning, combined with the weather forecast, meant I was feeling a bit meugh! Jane just said to me, we are travelling, not on holiday, a day wasted here or there is part of it, just roll with the punches. Wise advice which I took, and as if to prove the point, our day ended beautifully eating dinner at a beach side restaurant and feeling sand between our toes.
The other major reflection is quite how much of our time is taken up worrying about ablutions, mostly those of the dogs. The perfect evening for us is a stroll, a view, a beautiful sunset and a “two for two” with the dogs. I’ve also been up in the middle of the night with one or other dog (and thankfully not both at the same time) with a tum tum, so I feel we have “put a shift in”.
Today we will probably head for the beach, and rent a sunbed at another small beachside cafe we saw last night. It’s all nicely low density and relaxed beaching and just what we need after such an arduous few days (and yes I am taking the mick, we don’t expect any sympathy for our woes!).
