Quy Nhon - among Vietnamese

Pubblicato: 26.03.2019

The first thing that surprises us in Quy Nhon is the kilometer-long, empty sandy beach right in the city.

The promenade is capable of hosting tourists with its smaller hotels and delicious seafood restaurants, but they don't come here. Why is a mystery to us. The city is wonderfully relaxed and green, it's very easy to cross a street because there is little traffic. The wind makes the heat bearable. It suits us and we have extended our stay for two days.

When we arrived, a large gathering of several hundred young people was taking place, apparently being prepared for an event.

Overall, we are here in the middle of everyday life. We visited a concert of a youth group as the only foreigners in a pub. And even though the pub was packed, nobody was drinking alcohol.
We mostly eat at street food stalls because it's so delicious. For example, Binh Xeo
Or fruit juice in the evening at the beach
A lot of life happens on the street and at the beach. Every evening, it fills up with people swimming, doing sports, playing with their children, digging for shells, etc. We are greeted very friendly and feel very welcome.
There is a beautiful Buddhist temple called Long Khanh. Above the entrance gate is the Buddhist symbol of luck, a swastika, which initially makes us feel disturbed until we learn that it has been used by Buddhists for many thousands of years.

The shards of glass make the guards look really intimidating
In the fishing port, we are unfortunately sent away because Michael took photos of the wrong things.
We drove to the 'Twin Towers' located on the outskirts of the city by motorbike
And then coincidentally, about 15 km north of the city, we stumbled upon a truly monumental new temple: the Gautama Buddha statue at Linh Phong Pagoda
Once you have climbed the over 670 steps, you will be rewarded with a magnificent view
The interior of the temple is also impressive. The round walls are adorned with over 1400 Buddha statues and a large golden Buddha in the center
Tomorrow we will continue to Hoi An. But we suspect that we will often think back to the hospitable Quy Nhon.
