After the rather quiet island of Langkawi, we continue to the next big city. We stop in Georgetown, a district of Penang which is located on an island near the mainland. The island is connected to the mainland by two long highways bridges. It's a bit strange that we don't come to Georgetown by ferry, as the ferry only goes from Georgetown to Langkawi. So we book a 20-minute flight to Georgetown.
Georgetown is known for its old town, which is characterized by Victorian buildings from the colonial era. Modern high-rise buildings have sprung up around the old town.
We feel very comfortable in this city. It has a manageable size and if you want, you can do almost anything. Whether hiking, swimming in the sea, shopping, trying culinary delights, or visiting an indoor amusement park. You can do almost anything here.
The street art of the old town is a highlight for many tourists. As well as for us. We often find a graffiti picture that beautifies a wall and invites you to take pictures.
Often we are not the only ones.
We really enjoy exploring the city and the surrounding area. There is something to discover and see everywhere.
Georgetown is definitely one of our favorite stops and has something to offer for everyone.
Now we are heading to the capital Kuala Lumpur.
